What To Do In Branson, Mo? Part 2 – Branson Shows – Dixie Stampede,Sight and Sound, Haygoods, Pierce Arrow – watch video
This is the second post on Things To Do In Branson. You can read Part 1 which talks about Silver Dollar City and White Water.
This post is about the Best Branson Shows the Roark family recommends. The shows are as popular an activity to do in the evening as Silver Dollar City is during the day. This is by no means a complete list of shows in the area. With over 50 theaters and 100 shows, it would be very difficult to review them all. If you have a favorite show in Branson, please leave a comment. This is a list of some of our favorite shows and the ones we think are not to be missed while visiting Branson. One of the purposes of this blog site is to help families make memories by recommending fun things that the entire family can do. These shows are definitely for the entire family. I love to go to these shows and see grandparents laughing and having a great time with their grandchildren. This is a common site at all the following shows. I have written a brief description for most of our favorite shows and I placed links for you to find out more information if you are interested.
On February 29, 2012, Branson was hit by a tornado. Several business were damage on the strip after the tornado hit the area. We spent time in Branson in March just a few weeks after the tornado hit. I was happy to find out that everything that I am recommending is up and running or will be reopening very soon. I have given you reopening dates on the places that will be opening soon. I pray that the business that were hit really hard by the tornado will be able to rebuild soon and come back bigger and better. In 2011, TripAdvisor ranked Branson as one of the top 10 Family Places To Visit in the United States. Branson is still a great place to visit with lots of activities for you to enjoy with your family
Dixie Stampede has several locations including one in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Pigeon Forge, TN and the one in Branson, MO. We have been several times to the one in Pigeon Forge and the one in Branson located on the strip (Country Boulevard). We always have a great time. Dixie Stampede is not only an outstanding show with amazing horses but you will also enjoy a sumptuous dinner. The four-course meal includes an extremely tasty vegetable soup, a wonderful whole Rotisserie Chicken, pork loin, a melt in your mouth biscuit, corn on the cobb, a potato, and a very flakey Apple Turnover for dessert. The only things missing are the utensils. My kids think eating with your hands is part of the fun experience. You can see the full dinner menu on the link to Dixie Stampede’s website. The show is a rivalry between the North and the South. Both sides have horse performers’ competitions and audience’s competitions. The horses are beautiful! If you get a chance arrive early, take the time to see all the beautiful horses in their stalls. Your kids will love it! You will also want to arrive early for the pre-show in the Carriage Room which starts 50 minutes prior to the show. The past couple of times the pre show has been a juggler who has held all sorts of records. It was well worth arriving early and watching the performance. Dixie Stampede reopened on March 20, 2012. If you are a Silver Dollar season pass holder, you can receive a discount to Dixie Stampede.
Sight & Sound Theater in Branson - Performing the play Joseph. I often tell people if they can only see one show see Joseph.
Sight and Sound has a theater in Lancaster, PA. This year they will be performing the play Jonah in Lancaster. I can not stress to you tell you how beautiful the theater in Branson is and how extremely well the plays are performed. We have seen Noah, The Christmas Story which runs in November and December, and a back stage tour at Sight & Sound in Branson. If you do not have time to do much in Branson, please do not miss the performance at the Sight & Sound theater. It is definitely one of our family’s favorite things to do. The sound, costumes, live animals, characters, stage props (unbelievable recreation of the Ark), the auditorium, and the building itself is breath-taking. The theater sells DVD’s of previous plays. They must have performed Joseph in Lancaster because I have it already on DVD. My kids love it. We cannot wait to see it live in the Sight & Sound theater in Branson.
IT – The Hughes Brothers have a fantastic show. I have a separate post on my blog about IT. Six is another family favorite. You can also find a post on my blog about SIX.
The HAYGOODS - The Haygoods are a group of six brothers and one sister who sing with such great harmony. This group is definitely a family favorite and a must see while in Branson. The Haygoods are a young group ranging in age from 18 to 34. Their extremely wide range of music helps them to relate to teenagers as well as smaller children, parents, and grandparents. They are not only a talented group of singers but musicians as well. Each member played multiple instruments and preformed an amazing tap dance routine. They are extremely high energy and will hold your children’s attention even pass their bedtime.
In 1993 they moved to Branson and started playing music at Silver Dollar City. They play five shows a day at the park for eight years. In 2001, they opened their own show. In 2011, they moved to the RFDTV theater where they play today. The Haygoods are open for the 2012 season. Recently while visiting their show, I found out that they started a television show called “The Adventures of the Haygoods” which did very well for its first season in 2011. They are currently filming the second season which will air this fall, 2012 on RFDTV on Thursday nights.
Pierce Arrow is another one of our favorite shows in Branson. It is currently opened for the 2012 season. Pierce Arrow is a group of four men who have great harmony. They also have two ladies that sing wonderful solos. It is another family friendly show that honors the military and God with their music. They sing a wide range of songs from country, patriotic, gospel and in between and do an excellent job. The bass singer is amazing. He holds the Guinness Book of World Records for the lowest bass singer. It is worth it just to hear how low he can go. The comedian (Jarrett Dougherty) is just not right! He is extremely funny with clean family comedy. If you are in Branson for New Year’s Eve, the Pierce Arrow show is a great place to bring in the New Year.
Baldnobbers Jamboree Show was the first show in Branson 50 years ago. It is a great all around show. They sing classic country, country hits, and patriotic songs. The comedy was really good and clean for the entire family. The Baldknobbers are currently opened for the 2012 season.
Todd Oliver and Friends – We first saw Todd Oliver and Friends on the Branson Belle but now he is located in a theater. Todd Oliver is a Comedian ventriloquist. He uses his dogs as his dummies. It is hard to explain what he does. I am just telling you that we really enjoyed the show. Their theatre was damaged during the tornado in February. They will be reopening around April 15, 2012.
Grand Jubilee – is a quartet that sings Country, Gospel and even some Rock & Roll. They had a great bass singer who could sing really low. We enjoyed our evening at the Grand Jubilee. We were not impressed with Grand Country Comedy Show.
We love visiting the Branson area. I have written many posts and videos about Branson including restaurants, shows, attractions, and Silver Dollar City theme park which are all on my blog.
