The flavor of the homemade pudding is something they will talk about for a long time. Banana Pudding is one of my family’s favorite desserts, so I make it often. Each time I make it, I use a different glass trifle or individual containers depending on the time of year and the occasion. Since it is summer time, I thought it would be great in these mason jars. You could leave the pralines or wafers off the top of them and actually place the lid back on the jars to refrigerate.

The homemade taste is off the chart delicious. A pretty glass will also help impress your guests. You can make an ordinary dessert, like banana pudding, extra-ordinary by layering it in a pretty glass. I layered the pudding in six different glasses to show you that you could use any glassware and make the presentation for the banana pudding say, “I really do Love You.” Which is why putting the pudding in individual glassware is perfect for Valentine’s Day. Top the pudding off with a White Chocolate Heart and some Pralines to make it even more special. Keep reading for additional pictures and the recipe.
New Orleans Pralines are great to top Banana Pudding, see my post on Pralines.

Use your decorative glassware to serve your layered Banana Pudding.
White Chocolate Hearts - The best way to melt chocolate for this is in a double boiler but you can use your microwave and melt 1/2 bag white chocolate for 1 minutes. Stir the chips until melted and smooth. Place the chocolate in a piping bag (use a zip-lock if you do not have a piping bag). Cut a tiny amount off the end of the bag. Pipe an out-line of a heart on a sheet of parchment paper, then fill it in with more chocolate. Place in the refrigerator for 3 or 4 minutes or leave on the counter a little longer. Be careful when picking this chocolate up. It is very fraBanana Pudding (Vanilla Pudding recipe adapted from usaweekend.com)
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- pinch salt
- 2 cans (12 ounces each) evaporated milk
- 1 cup whole milk
- 4 large egg yolks
- 1TB pure vanilla extract for the pudding (and 2 tsp for whipped with the heavy cream)
- 1 box vanilla wafers
- 2 cups heavy cream, whipped with 1/4 cup sugar, add 2 tsp vanilla (You could also use Cool Whip)
- 3 to 4 large bananas, sliced (coat bananas with a couple teaspoons of lemon juice)
Add sugar, cornstarch, salt, milk, and eggs to a pot over medium heat. Whisk constantly until it starts to boil and thickens into pudding. Pudding will burn if it sticks to the bottom of the pot. You can also make this in a double boiler to help prevent burning. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Cover with a sheet of plastic wrap directly on top of the pudding to keep a skin from forming. Refrigerate until cool.
If you do not want to make your pudding from scratch, try the following recipe using Eagle Brand Milk and Instant Pudding. It is also very delicious.
Then, layer the pudding and the rest of the ingredients in your favorite glassware. If you have room in your glass, repeat the layers until they fill the glass.
