How to Fill Up Teenagers

If you have teenage boys, you know they have bottomless pits for stomachs.  It can be extremely difficult to fill them up, especially with healthy snacks.

I have found the best way to fill up all of my children, even my teenage boys, is to keep sandwiches made and ready to grab and go in the refrigerator.   I started making a tub full of sandwiches every 2 to 3 days when my son started playing baseball.  He needed to grab a healthier snack or meal before and after games.  Sandwiches are full of protein and great for growing teenagers. After school or baseball practice, he always wants a sandwich.  The sandwiches are ready to grab and go.  We have used them many times as a packed lunch for a quick bite to eat in between ball games.  When you have 2 to 5-ball games a weekend, or more when he was playing traveling ball, sandwiches come in very handy.  I have noticed when I have a tub full of sandwiches, someone is always grabbing one for breakfast, lunch, or snack.  They get eaten extremely fast.  On busy weeks, I usually have to refill the tub every couple of days.  If you are looking for a way to fill up your child who has a bottomless pit for a stomach, try to fill your refrigerator with ready-made sandwiches.  So, they can just grab one and eat.

Some of our favorite cold sandwiches include Egg Salad, Ham Salad, Chicken Salad, Shrimp Salad, Roll Ups, ham and cheese, turkey and cheese, and even Peanut Butter & Jelly.   I fill the bucket with a variety of kinds of sandwiches.  To make them a little different each time I prepare them, I use a variety of bread including pita pockets, tortillas, sour dough, rolls, Hawaiian bread, and much more.  I will be posting some of our favorite cold sandwich recipes this week.

Wonderful idea! I too have teenage boys who both play HS baseball and they are always hungry. As a single-mom who works full-time, it seems like ALL my free time is spent IN THE KITCHEN (or at baseball games, of course). I’m going shopping right now for a new tub big enough for at least a dozen sandwiches. Thanks so much for sharing this simple, but very useful tip.

      Stacey,
I cannot imagine being a single mom and working plus having to cook all the time to fill up teenagers. You definitely have several full time jobs. I fill up my large tub at least once or twice a week. I use a very large old cake holder that I turn upside down. It has always worked well. I am so glad you found http://www.recipesforourdailybread.com I am trying hard to focus on more easy recipes that the entire family will enjoy. With school starting and sports, we all could use easy recipes. I hope you will consider following my blog for future updates. I am a Southern Food & Travel blogger & a Christian. Hey would you mind letting me know which webhost you’re using? I’ve loaded your blog in 3 completely different web browsers and I must say this blog loads a lot faster then most. Can you recommend a good web hosting provider at a reasonable price? Thanks a lot, I appreciate it!

Thank you for visiting my blog. I use HOST Gator. I not sure it is my web host that is so fast. I believe it has a lot to do with the Thesis Theme. I switched over to the theme this year and I truly enjoy it. Blessings, Diane Roark
