The Shepherd of the Hills Outdoor Drama in Branson, MO has played since 1960. It is the story about the Ozark people. You will never be bored while watching this outdoor play. The Shepard of the Hills play is packed with over 80 actors and actresses, 40 horses, guns, and an actual burning log cabin. Guns including rifles are firing off all the time. They will take you by surprise if you are not watching. You will find yourself sitting on the edge of your chair just waiting to see what will happen next. This show is based on the book written by Harold Bell Wright in 1907. The story is about the people of the Ozark’s hardship, power, loss, love, and finding the true meaning of life. Yes, it has a love story, a hoe down, several shoot outs, and more. Millions of people have seen The Shepherd of the Hills Outdoor Theater since 1960. John Wayne even played in the movie version of this story in 1941. My family really enjoyed a beautiful night in the Ozarks while learning a lot about the history of this wonderful part of the country. Shepherd of the Hills play was definitely worth going to see!
We arrived early to see the Patriotic Pre-Show. The horses and riders were wonderful as they honored America and Veterans.
My pictures are limited because “No Flash” photography was allowed during the play.
