This time of year if you are serving biscuits, toast, apple fritters, and more, it is just not complete without some apple butter on it. We truly enjoy apple butter and I have found the best way to prepare it is using my crock-pot. After you peel and core the apples, the crock-pot does all the work. I cooked my apple butter on low over night for 10 hours. The next morning I just used my Hand Blender to blend the apple butter smooth and creamy. I store my apple butter in Mason Jars in the refrigerator and it disappears fast. I have no idea how long it will last in the refrigerator since we eat it so quickly. If you plan on storing the apple butter for more than a couple of weeks, process the Mason Jars in Boiling Water for 10 minutes. This recipes makes about 8 cups.
This recipe was adapted from the Blue Book Guide to Preserving by Ball. I substituted one cup of sugar and for one cup of brown sugar. This recipe is not too sweet nor does it have too many spices. I think it is perfect. I also cooked my apple butter in my crock-pot instead of on the stove. I think using my crock-pot is the easiest way to prepare the apples.
