Crock-Pot Whole Ham – Giveaway 12/13/13

Crock-Pot Holiday Brown Sugar Ham

Why do I love Gooseberry Patch recipes?  This Crock-Pot Holiday Brown Sugar Ham recipe is a good example of why I love Gooseberry Patch’s recipes.  Most of Gooseberry Patch’s recipes are easy to make and most of the time use ingredients I already have on hand.  This ham was super easy using my crock-pot and just four ingredients.  The ingredients included pineapple juice, brown sugar, maple syrup and a fully cooked bone-in ham.   We truly enjoyed the taste of this ham.  It is not too sweet and really moist.  If you are planning on preparing a ham this holiday season, try this Crock-Pot Holiday Brown Sugar Ham.  This ham really is easy and very tasty.

Gooseberry Hometown Harvest and this Gooseberry Hometown Christmas cookbook are definitely on my favorite cookbook list.  This Gooseberry Hometown Christmas cookbook  is full of great Christmas recipes.  The categories include:

  • Breakfast with Santa – which includes wonderful breakfast recipes that are special enough for Christmas morning.
  • Sledding Party Warmers - this section is full of soups that will warm you and your party guests.  It is also where I got FIZZLE BISCUITS.   These biscuits were the easiest biscuits I have ever made.  They were light and very fluffy.  I cannot wait to add a post about them this week.
  • Old Fashioned Christmas Dinner
  • Open House …You’re Invited!
  • Tree – Trimming Treats – Christmas treats to help make everything during Christmas a very special occasion.
  • Slow – Cooker Comfort Foods – I LOVE THIS SECTION!  This is where I got this delicious Holiday Brown Sugar Ham.
  • Coming Home for Christmas – Favorite memories about Christmas.

      Laurie,

Are you from Tennessee or KY? I love country ham and have made several recipes using it. My husband is originally from Tennessee. His grandmother passed a way a couple of years ago but we always got a country ham for Christmas almost 30 years.

A must have on our holiday table is homemade chicken and noodles. My grandma used to make them for us every year. I was lucky enough that she gave me a crash course in making them before she got Alzheimer’s. Mine aren’t quite as good but they work :)

I am so sorry to hear about your grandmother having Alzheimer’s. It must be really difficult on your family to see her like that. I one thing I have never made is homemade noodles. I hear homemade noodles are fantastic. I would love for you to show me how.

Diane, I’m a vegetarian, living in Missouri. My full measure of good food, especially meat, is my farm boy husband. I’ve never fixed Ham in a crockpot before, should have years ago, a real timesaver and tasty. Hubby loved it, as he loves good, clean dishes and that is my measure of quality cooking. The Gooseberry Hometown Christmas Cookbook would be a keepsake. Thanks for response to the Oatmeal blog, such a personal touch.

I am excited your husband loved the ham. It is really easy to make and taste great. How far do you live from Branson? Since I live in Arkansas, we visit Branson all the time. We have a rental lodge there. I truly love Branson. My dream is to move there and live full time one day. My husband and I have 5 children. My oldest one is 22 years old. She is in medical school training to be a doctor. I have a two 17 year olds, 15 year old, and an 11 year old. We all enjoy Silver Dollar City,Branson shows, restaurants, and more. I write about all of our Branson adventures all the time.

We are iced in today. I know Branson received a lot of snow. How is your weather?

I have so many favorite foods I wouldn’t know where to begin. Baked Glaze ham which I love for every holiday dinner. Of course Pecan Pie at all holidays. Cranberry Salad which is Cranberries, Strawberry Jello, Orange Peel, Nuts, I think that’s all in it off hand (mostly Thanksgiving). Sweet Potatoes/Yams with plenty of brown sugar, butter, marshmallow, yum! Christmas cookies, tons of different kind, favorite is sugar cut-out made with cake flour, and homemade frosting. I’ll stop now I’m getting hungry.
The crock pot ham looks good, but I’ve never tried making it in crock pot, have try it. The fizzle biscuits really look good, and so does the cookies! Thanks for the awesome cookbook giveaway!

My favorite food for Thanksgiving is hands down turkey! For Christmas it has to be ham. I guess because that is what we ate growing up, I still make it today for my own family. Of course we have to have mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, hash brown casserole, biscuits, stuffing, amazing desserts…..the works! It’s the two best meals of the year! :)

It is ham hands down! For the last couple of years, I have been throwing a ham in the smoker. Smoked ham is amazing! I pin it with sliced pineapple, sprinkle it with a little brown sugar and baste it with some sort of root beer, usually Barq’s. Awesome!

I never really met a food I didn’t like. One of my Christmas favorites is what I call pink fluff. Cherry pie filling, pineapple, nuts, Cool whip condensed milk. Yum!! Thanks for chance to win.

      Susan,

I use similar ingredients with Pistachio Pudding. “The Green Stuff” is really delicious.

Love Gooseberry Patch cookbooks and this one sure sounds like a winner. I think I may just be making this ham for our Chirstmas supper. I would also probably need at least a 10 pound ham though so would love to know what size slow cooker you used? Mine is one of the largerst ones so I’m hoping it’s big enough. Using the slow cooker on Christmas would make things a lot eaiser and this ham sounds delicious. As for my favorite thing on the Thanksgiving table it has to be my Mom’s recipe for stuffing. She taught my daughter, sister and I how to make it several years ago and about a year later I took over the Thanksgiving cooking. Of course I often helped her anyway so I had kinda an idea. We did take the time to write everything down the year she told me it was soon going to be my turn to do it all. My sister and daughter help though. My Mom passed away this spring so this will be our first Thanksgiving without her but I know she’ll be watching over us and be in our heart, memories and thoughts.

      Joan,

My largest slow cooker is 7 quarts. It is the one I used with my ham. I also bought a 10 pound ham. I did not trim it. The lid on my crock-pot barely fit BUT it did seal. My ham turned out moist and not dry. Slow cookers do not recommend you cooking pass the top of the cooker but it worked for me. If you do a 10 pound ham, baste it more often. I think this helped the top of my ham from drying out.

This ham was so easy and really good. I would make it again.
