Your mouth will do a Happy Dance with the crunch, sweetness, and saltiness from the bacon in this Broccoli Salad.  It is so YUMMY!  I use mayonnaise, honey, and a little lemon juice for the dressing.  I enjoy this combination with the sweetness of the Craisins, the red onion, the salty, crunchy bacon and sunflower seeds with the broccoli.  Who wouldn’t eat their broccoli in this salad?  I could eat this broccoli salad all the time.  If you have family members who do not like broccoli, have them try this salad.  Since this Broccoli Salad includes a slightly sweet dressing, they may like this broccoli.  I would love to hear what you think of this Broccoli Salad if you give this recipe a try.  If you enjoy broccoli, you may enjoy my Broccoli Rice & Cheese Casserole too.

To make this salad, you simply chop everything and toss it together with the dressing.

  • This dressing is simple but incredibly delicious.  It includes mayonnaise, honey, and lemon juice and set aside.

  • Fresh bacon is amazing in this salad.  Cook your bacon in the oven while chopping the vegetables.  See my blog for Oven Fried Bacon. The easiest way to cook bacon.

  • Chop the broccoli and onions.  Grate the carrots.

  • Next, you add the sunflower seeds and the Craisins to the broccoli, carrots, and onion.

  • You finish this salad by tossing all ingredients well with the prepared dressing.

  • 2 bunches of fresh broccoli, washed and cut into bite size pieces
  • ½ cup raisins (prefer white) OR ½ cup dried cranberries. I LOVE THE CRAISINS IN THIS SALAD.
  • ½ cup sunflower seeds
  • ½ shredded carrots
  • ½ cup shredded cheese
  • ½ cup purple onion, diced small
  • 1 cup mayo
  • 2 TB sugar
  • 8 to 10 slices of bacon cooked hard and crumbled
  1. Mix all ingredients together and refrigerate. Use within 2 days.

  2. This recipe looks delicious. I am always looking for different ways to prepare broccoli aside from the standard pan saute or blanching. Aside from the antioxidants that you get from the broccoli, the sunflower seeds are a nice addition for selenium! Saving this for later 🙂

  3. Such a crowd-pleaser! We make this salad every time we are hosting a bar-b-que. It can be made well in advance and unlike a green salad, you will never have to worry about it wilting.

  4. Just pulled this recipe off to make for Easter dinner. My father adores Broccoli Salad but have never been able to duplicate the one he loves. This looks pretty darn close to it so…here we go! Wish me luck and may God grace me with his blessings as well as you and your family!!

  5. I make this and always add chopped cauliflower. When you do that it is red, green and white. A beautiful addition to a Christmas table.

      This Broccoli Salad is truly the best broccoli salad I have ever had. The dressing is super simple but delicious. You can cut back a little on the sugar or use a sugar substitute. I have been wanting to try this salad with honey instead of sugar. Maybe soon.

  6. I too love broccoli salad and most guests do too. Many have not had it, but even children like it because of the sweetness. I used chopped dates instead of cranraisins and that is also a sweet and different addition that most people like. I like the idea of adding carrots, honey instead of sugar and some lemon juice…..something my recipe did not do. Sharing ideas is wonderful! Thanks!

      I cannot believe I have not caught that before now. I must have looked at the picture quickly when I was typing and thought the carrots were cheese. I normally put cheese in everything, but this Broccoli Salad with Bacon does NOT have cheese.

  8. Love the sound of this salad! It ‘s similar to one I like to get at Offerdahl’s but the addition of broccoli is brilliant. This would be good with a balsamic vinaigrette as well. Thanks for sharing on Wonderful Wednesday.

This Broccoli salad is one of my family’s favorite salads.I love the idea of using Balsamic Vinaigrette. I have a couple other salads using a Balsamic Vinaigrette and they are delicious.
