You can whip this flavorful cranberry sauce up in your slow cooker using a 12-ounce bag of fresh cranberries, orange juice, orange zest, sugar, brown sugar, and allspice.
I have never like canned cranberries. So, I had to try making my own. What I do love is citrus especially orange juice and orange zest. So, why not add it to something I do not like to make it taste incredible. This cranberry sauce not only tastes terrific but smell amazing when cooking. When making this sauce in my slow cooker, I used fresh cranberries. The slow cooker broke the cranberries down. The texture is not like Jello either.
This recipe my favorite way to eat cranberry sauce. I adapted this recipe from a bag of Ocean Spray cranberries. Instead of cooking it on the stove, I used my slow cooker. On holidays, when you have so many things cooking, and you have to keep an eye on having this cranberry sauce in my slow cooker was one less thing to watch. Yeah!
- 1 (12 ounce pack) fresh cranberry
- ½ cup water
- ½ cup orange juice
- 1 tablespoon orange zest - optional
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ tsp all spice
- Add all these ingredients to your crock-pot.
- Cook on high 3 hours. Stir hourly.
- Remove the lid and cook another hour.
- The cranberry sauce will thicken up or gel as it cools.
