HEATHIER TATER TOT CASSEROLE USING TURKEY

If you are trying to eat less beef, try this Tater Tot Casserole made with ground turkey.  No worries that it would be bland.  I took care of that problem.

HEATHIER TATER TOT CASSEROLE USING TURKEY

HEATHIER TATER TOT CASSEROLE USING TURKEYOne of my family’s favorite casserole is my TATER TOT VEGETABLE CASSEROLE.  This time, I decided to make my tater tot casserole a little healthier using ground turkey instead of beef.

The Biggest Loser put the ground turkey on the map.  They encouraged me to use it instead of ground beef.  I have used it to make ground Turkey Taco Lettuce Leaves and Turkey Chili, which both turned out incredibly delicious.  One thing I learned from using ground turkey in these recipes is to increase the seasoning.

Ground Turkey needs lots of seasonings.

To me,  ground turkey may be healthier, but it is bland.  I love my food flavorful and well seasoned.   Ground turkey needs more seasoning than ground beef, so I added extra garlic, pepper, and Worcestershire.  It turned out incredibly tasty.  Seriously, you will never guess I used ground turkey instead of beef in this tater tot casserole.

This Tator Tot Casserole is quick and easy to make.

I simply brown the ground turkey and add a can of cream of celery and cream of mushroom soup.  Next, I insert the seasonings and place the mixture in a 9 x 13 casserole dish.  I topped the ground turkey with lots of cheese and then a layer of tater tots.  It is a quick and easy recipe your family will love.  It is also a little more healthy using ground turkey instead of ground beef.

How to you spell tator or tater?

While writing this post, I doubled checked to see how to spell tater tot.  I found out that people spell it both ways.  When I checked the Ore-Ida website, they spelled tater tot with an er.  I decided to spell it with an er since I did use Ore-Ida Tater Tots.

    • Melody,

      I made a basic tater tot casserole this time. I normally add a bag of frozen mixed vegetables to it. The ground turkey with the kicked up seasonings work well. I will be trying it again and adding the mixed vegetables.

      Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving me a comment.

  1. Hey Diana this sounds great…just needs a little onion and garlic for me to spice it up even more and maybe even a couple of sprinkles of red pepper or cayenne pepper!! ;-}
    Thanks for the recipe!

    • Helen,

      Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting on my Healthier tater tot casserole. I decided to increase the garlic powder and Worcestershire which turned out really tasty. I add cayenne pepper to most things and may try a pinch sometime.
