Making these Turkey Cookies has been an activity that we try to enjoy every year around Thanksgiving Time. It is so much fun to make an whole turkey cookie family.
We enjoy making these Turkey Cookies as a family every year around Thanksgiving Time. It is a Thanksgiving tradition that all the kids enjoy creating. The recipe for the Cut Out Cookies used for the base and the Chocolate Icing recipe are both delicious, but any sugar cookie and chocolate icing will work.
When I look at these cute turkeys, they remind me of a Happy Family. Sometimes we just need a little more happiness or Joy in our families. I am sure you are wondering how can we do that? This is really difficult during the busy holiday season. Do something out of the box. My husband keeps us laughing all the time. You never know when he will break out into a Happy Dance or do something else crazy. It helps not to focus on the negative things all the time but focus some on having crazy fun as a family. You will be making memories that will last forever.
Another Thanksgiving tradition we always enjoy…
We truly enjoy reading Thanksgiving a Time to Remember by Barbara Rainey. This books goes into detail on life and struggles the Pilgrims endured. It is an amazing book. We start reading it as a family a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving. We read a little bit each night. It will help you understand the true meaning of Thanksgiving and makes a great family tradition.

13 A joyful heart makes a cheerful face, But when the heart is sad, the spirit is broken.
Use the chocolate icing to spread on a cookie (I used a 3 inch cookie). Cut another sugar cookie in half and ice the top and the side that you cut. Place that end against the bottom of the other sugar cookie you put icing on. (see picture) The whole cookie you iced should stand up straight.Place a large Reese Cup in the icing at the bottom of the cookie resting on the half cookie. Place candy corn (small side down) all around the top of the cookie. Attach a Malted Milk Ball for the Head to the top of the Reese Cup with a little icing. Attach red candies (I used Tamales) for the gobble. Attach small M & M’s with the icing to the Malt Milk Ball for the eyes.
