BEST EVER SPICY SWEET SENSATIONAL HAM AND CHEESE
Have you had a busy week? My life is usually busy but this past week has been super busy. We returned home from our dream vacation to Alaska and moved four days later. If you have ever dreamed of going to Alaska, check out my first post about our vacation. We truly had the best vacation ever. If you spent the week on vacation, moving or maybe both, I am sure you could use this amazing sandwich recipe.
Recipes For Our Daily Bread is all about easy recipes you can make quickly with no problem. I am not a chef just simply a mother of five. My kids include a young adult daughter, three teenage boys, and a teenage daughter. You can guess when my crew is together I need easy recipes the entire family enjoys. They love this easy spicy sweet ham and cheese. I am so glad it is easy to make because I have to make several to feed my family. If any of this sandwich is leftover, my teenage boys will eat it for breakfast. If you have boys or teens, I am sure you can relate.
The sweetness in this ham and cheese sandwich comes from the Hawaiian bread. I make Ham Cheese Sliders which are made on Hawaiian sweet rolls and baked. Before baking, they are topped with an amazing sauce made with Dijon Mustard, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. These sweet and savory sliders are terrific. They inspired me to create this cold sandwich using Hawaiian sweet bread. I wanted a sweet and spicy sandwich that did not have to be baked. I needed a sandwich that was easy to make and traveled well.
What spread did I use on this Spicy Sweet Sensational Ham and Cheese?
I have a delicious Sweet Spicy Honey Mustard recipe. It goes perfectly with Hawaiian Bread. My oldest daughter, Carly, created this Honey Mustard several years ago. It is truly the best honey mustard I have ever had. This honey mustard is made with honey, mayonnaise, brown mustard and cayenne pepper. It is sweet but includes some heat which is perfect with Hawaiian bread. We also love this Sweet Spicy Honey Mustard on salads, sandwiches and as a dip for our chicken tenders.
How did I make this Ham and Cheese?
I used an Original Hawaiian Sweet Round Bread Loaf. The bread is pretty thick, so I sliced it horizontally twice. I made one slice just below the dome part of the bread. I made another slice where you can tell it was in the pan about an inch from the bottom. After slicing the bread, I added the Sweet Spicy Honey Mustard to each layer on both the top and bottom piece of the bread. Next, I layered lettuce and Ham and Cheese to each layer. You could easily add tomatoes. I should have made a trip to the farmers market. The store bought tomatoes did not look good.Print
- Hawaiian Sweet Round Bread, cut horizontally twice – an inch from the top and an inch from the bottom.
- 2 pounds of ham, I use thick smoked ham
- Eight slices of cheese per layer – 4 per layer
- Spicy Honey Mustard, about three tablespoons on all four sides – recipe below
- SWEET SPICY HONEY MUSTARD
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 2 TB spicy brown mustard
- 3 TB honey
- ¼ tsp cayenne pepper ( decrease the cayenne to ⅛ tsp or less if you do not like things spicy)
- SWEET SPICY HONEY MUSTARD
- Blend all ingredients together. Store in an air-tight jar like a mason jar in the refrigerator.
This sandwich travels well in the pan that the Hawaiian bread comes in. Just place the finished sandwich back into the tin pan that the bread was purchased in. Slice the ham and cheese in the pan and use the food wrapper to close it.
